I recently returned from a month long trip around the States and during my research for the trip I found some amazing Apps that can really make planning a trip so much easier. Here is a list of the ones I think are the best.

WorldMate – Free

A fantastic app that organises your travel itinerary in an easy to read format on your mobile phone or iPad. Simply forward on your reservation confirmation emails for your hotels, flights and car hire to WorldMate and voila, WorldMate organises all your reservations into a simple itinerary including flight numbers, reservation numbers, phone numbers, addresses etc. If you buy the Gold version ($10.49), you also receive real time notification of any changes to flight times or cancellations. The app also features weather alerts for your destinations, the ability to share itineraries, maps, directions and more.

There’s Nothing Like Australia – Free (iPad and Android only)

Created by Tourism Australia, this beautiful App not only features coffee-table style images but boasts an itinerary builder, featured destinations, interactive imagery, videos and travel stories. Even if you’re not planning on travelling, this App is worth downloading just for its stunning imagery.

Australian Road Trips – $4.49

Featuring 40 detailed driving itineraries, thousands of photos and information on 4WD tracks, picnic spots, national parks, great walking trails, museums, lookouts, wineries and basically anything you can think of that is worth seeing. The App won a Best Travel App award last year and is definitely worth the small investment if you’re planning to hit the road in Australia.

Yelp – Free

No matter where you are in Australia and no matter what you are trying to look for whether it is a supermarket, restaurant, service station or pub, this App will come in handy. Yelp also includes directions and reviews and is a great time saver for travellers.

Viator – Free

If you’re looking to save some money while you’re travelling Viator will be great for you. Displaying deals and discounts, top attractions, tours and activities the Viator App is a great way to find out what there is to see and do locally and take advantage of any special offers while you are doing them!

Skyscanner – Free

The latest offering in finding cheap flights, Skyscanner searches a range of websites to find the cheapest flights for you and then allows you to view a helpful graph showing the surrounding days and on which days it is cheapest to fly. Users are then led to the website with the cheapest deals where the booking can be made. Fast, fun and fabulous!

Choice Hotels International App – Free

Now I may be a bit biased but Choice Hotels have their very own App and it’s a ripper! The App features all of Choice Hotels 6000+ hotels worldwide and allows the user to search for hotels in either list form or map view. Users can compare hotels, filter and sort hotels and even leave feedback directly to the Choice Hotels Mobile Team. With this App you’ll always be able to find your closest Choice Hotel.
